There have been multiple Dota 2 matches that were so intense that they will go down in history. Let’s check them out!
Dota 2 is one of the world’s leading esports titles in the MOBA division. Though the game is considered to be more calculated compared to other games, there are still luck factors and instances of individual prowess that come out of these professional players. Crazy plays and comebacks have happened throughout the game’s long history, so let’s check out some of the most interesting matches in Dota 2 events!
Evil Geniuses vs EHOME at The International 2018
Any game you play in the playoffs of a “The International” Dota 2 tournament will go down in history. These matches become exponentially special when you pull off a fantastic comeback in front of your home crowd. Any player would dream of this happening. EG managed to pull that off and made that dream scenario a reality.
Dota fans will forever remember game 1 of the series between EG and EHOME as one of the greatest Dota 2 matches. Evil Geniuses were down 20,000 gold and eventually had to let EHOME take Mega Creeps. EG winning this game was already challenging as no team has ever come back from Mega Creeps at a Ti main stage match.
However, a series of insane plays and teamwork, especially with a triple Dagon strat, allowed EG to claw their way back into the game slowly. With the home crowd buff, EG offlaner Universe had the confidence to purchase a Divine Rapier, bringing EG to victory against all odds.
EG proceeded to win the series 2 – 0 and had the American crowd roaring in excitement.
Team Nigma vs Alliance at OMEGA League 2020
Game 1 of the series featured an excellent base defense off the back of Miracle’s Arc Warden.
Thirty-six minutes into the game, the game looked almost over, as Alliance had built up a hefty gold lead and were marching towards Team Nigma’s base to end the game. With Miracle dead for 17 seconds, Alliance quickly removed the Tier 4 towers and sought to end the game.
Miracle finally respawns as his throne is already exposed and quickly taking damage. However, with great awareness and micro skill, Miracle could abuse Arc Warden’s Magnetic Field, applying the bubble on the Ancient so that Alliance could not hit it.
To stay calm in the intense situation, Miracle used his main hero and his clone to keep the throne bubbled, while dealing heavy damage and buying time for his team to kill off Alliance heroes one by one.
Miracle’s inhuman performance led Team Nigma to make an impossible comeback and win the series 2 – 0 against Alliance.
Team Liquid vs Vici Gaming at EPICENTER 2019
Team Liquid was up against Vici Gaming in the Grand Finals of EPICENTER 2019. Team Liquid was one game away from losing. Still, they were able to show unbelievable teamwork, with lots of huge plays and lucky moments to help them win an unwinnable game.
The first highlight of the match was Miracle’s Arc Warden stacking Spark Wraiths in the Roshan Pit, where he was able to one-shot Roshan right when it respawned. The death of Roshan gave Team Liquid the Aegis advantage in a losing game.
However, Vici Gaming still had a sizable lead and marched towards Team Liquid’s high ground. There, Miracle got Doomed and died with no buyback. It was up to the rest of the Liquid crew to hold their chances at staying in the tournament.
Gh on Phoenix was able to use his ultimate to save w33’s puck. Still, Vici Gaming’s Ori on Lina quickly focused his attacks on destroying the egg. The egg miraculously popped with one HP, putting w33 back to full health and winning the team fight.
The team fight win led to Team Liquid marching down mid and quickly ending the game.
Evil Geniuses vs Team Secret at The International 2019
EG faced Team Secret in front of the Chinese crowd at The International 2019. Game 2 became one of the most memorable Dota 2 matches due to the Combo Wombo performed by Team Secret.
Team Secret was down one game going into game two, so they had to win it, or they would be knocked down to the Lower Bracket. The game was very close, building up to the 57-minute mark, but an outstanding team fight from Secret allowed them to win the game.
Team Secret had drafted a teamfight-heavy lineup, with spells such as Echo Slam, Chronosphere, Black Hole, and Cataclysm. They were able to put all of those spells to use in the final team fight.
The Secret boys pulled off a symphony of skills and effectively used all of their large cooldowns. They won the team fight and ended the game.
Team Secret went on to win the series 2 – 1 to move on the Upper Bracket.
OG vs Evil Geniuses at The International 2018
OG vs EG at The International 2018 was an extremely spicy matchup because of the events that occurred before this event.
EG’s Fly and s4 were previously on OG right before Ti8 started, but they left with barely any notice. Fans were calling these two players traitors. This roster shuffle caused this specific match to be OG’s revenge match against EG.
The hype didn’t disappoint, as EG and OG’s Dota 2 players filled the decisive Game 3 with huge plays from both sides. Most notably, SumaiL on his Tiny was on fire, with more than 20 kills halfway into the game already.
OG didn’t pay any attention to that and stayed focused. After immediately punishing crucial mistakes made by EG, OG pulled off a remarkable comeback and showed Fly that he made the wrong decision.
OG went on to win the entire event and made one of the craziest storylines in esports history.
Conclusion
In conclusion, though incredible individual plays can create a legendary Dota 2 match, the crowd, the stakes, and the storyline make a game more memorable. The Dota community is lucky to have such excellent matches throughout its long history.
